Kilkenny Animated Presents
The Making of a Zine – with Aoife Dooley & Guests
HEADLINERS
What does it take to create and publish a zine, and what stories lie behind the artwork?
Join artist, author and comedian Aoife Dooley for a lively conversation with the creators behind The Zine Machine, Kilkenny’s homegrown collective of artists and illustrators. Together they’ll pull back the curtain on the creative process behind independent publishing and share the challenges, surprises and triumphs of bringing a zine to life – not once, but across four editions.
Featuring Colm Dowling, Rebeca Luca, Amy Byrne and Marty Broski, the discussion will explore how ideas become artwork, how collaborations take shape and why zines continue to be one of the most exciting forms of grassroots creative expression. Along the way, audiences will enjoy a showcase of original artwork, with a selection of images projected on screen as the artists reveal the stories behind the pages.
Whether you’re an artist, writer, designer, aspiring publisher or simply curious about creative communities, this is a fascinating look at what happens when a group of people decide to make something together.
Part exhibition, part conversation, part creative inspiration, this is the story behind the zine.
