Meet the speakers

Satoko O'Brien

Satoko O‘Brien de Carvalho is a Japanese cultural educator and community organizer based in Ireland. Originally from Japan, she has lived in UK, Brazil and Ireland, giving her unique perspective on how Japanese culture is understood, adapted and celebrated across different communities.

Through her work with children, adult Japan fans and cultural events, she explores how anime, storytelling and both traditional and modern Japanese culture connect people across borders. She is passionate about creating opportunities for cultural exchange and helping people discover Japan.

Her favorite anime is Demon slayer and My neighbor TOTORO (as all Japanese kids are!) enjoy watching them with 2 children of hers.
